My initial exposure to the practice of martial arts was the basic fundamentals of confidence, discipline, respect and the awareness of ones surroundings and self. I have come to appreciate and practice a basic philosophy of life that is filled with constant movement and growth. I have witnessed first hand both the physical and spiritual benefits of martial arts training. Nothing is more gratifying than sharing a commitment to continual challenge and improvement. Karate will always be a part of my life. Yushinkai and the Canada Goju Karate family is extremely large and diverse and I am proud to be a part of that family.

My interest in karate began 8 years ago in 1996. I was looking for physical activity that would get me and keep me in shape. It also provided me an opportunity to learn to defend myself. My career can be very stressful and my karate training has proven to be a great method to help me relieve that stress. My favorite aspect of karate training it when the entire class does kata together. Bunkai is another aspect I truly enjoy. I will continue to train in karate as I find it provides balance in all aspects of my life and helps me strive for growth in both my personal and professional life.

The first day I saw the Yushinkai dojo in action I knew immediately I had to join this club. I have enjoyed every challenging moment training under Sensei Steve Lynch. As a 16 yr. old Shodan, the future holds many opportunities for me with an understanding in martial arts. I hope one day to be in conservation enforcement and I believe our dojo disciplines of health, fitness, respect, and honor will only contribute in a positive way to that future goal. My favorite aspect of karate is kumite. It teaches self control as well as focus. It also teaches proper technique and tactics when faced with an opponent. It simulates a live situation that could happen at any time, with any size of opponent. I am very proud of what I have accomplished in the past few years, as is my family.

I began karate when I was 12. My main interest was the sport aspect, I love sports and physical activities. Karate looked to be exciting and something new to try out. I can honestly say Karate for me has been one of the best things I have done so far in my life. I not only learned how to defend myself but I have had a chance to meet and train with so many great people and with that gain I have become far more self confident. Karate has helped me develop a large part of my personality, I have good discipline and a great respect for others in all I believe it has made me a better person. Karate for me is about family, a group of people who gets together to train and learn from and support one another, and we all grow together. Karate has truly affected the rest of my life in a positive way..... "The way"

I was 6 yrs old when I began Karate. I have enjoyed it from the beginning. I find it is a good workout and helps me train my body. Most of all it is fun. It helps me deal with stress and anger. It helps me sleep at night and gives me the confidence never to be afraid of anything. I hope one day to be as good as my sensei.
