Yamaguchi (The Cat) Gogen Sensei is born January 29, 1909 in Kagoshima, Japan in southern Kyushu.

1912
Yagi Meitoku Sensei is born March 6, 1912 in Kume-Machi, district of Naha, Okinawa.

1915
Higaonna Kanryo Sensei passes away December 1915 at 65 years of age. Miyagi Chojun Sensei becomes successor of Naha-Te. Miyagi Sensei pays for his masters funeral.

1916
Funakoshi Gichin Sensei of Shuri-Te gives his historic Karate demonstration in the city of Kyoto.

1921
Miyagi Chojun Sensei demonstrates Naha-Te to Prince Hirohito in Okinawa.

1922
Miyazato Ei Ichi Sensei, founder of Jundokan Gou-ryu is born July 5, 1922. Miyagi An Ichi (no relation), Higaonna Morio and Chinen Teruo all obtained their dan rankings from Miyazato Sensei.

1923
Funakoshi Sensei returns to Tokyo where he works as a school teacher and opens a Karate dojo naming it Shotokan.

1930
Shinzato Jin an Sensei, one of Miyagi Sensei s top students attends a martial arts convention in Tokyo. Naha-Te is named Hanko-ryu when asked the name of the nameless style. Hanko-ryu translates to Half Hard Style. Master Miyagi is pleased with the name but refines it to Goju-ryu from the Chinese text The Bubishi (The Kempo Haku).

1933
Goju-ryu is officially registered under the Dai Nippon Butokukai as a style. Karate is an official art.

1934
Miyagi Sensei travels to Hawaii to introduce Goju-ryu in April 1934.

1935
Miyagi Sensei returns to Okinawa in February 1935 and is invited by Yamaguchi Sensei to demonstrate Goju-ryu in Japan a second time.

1936
January 28, 1936, Miyagi Sensei demonstrates in Osaka, Japan and give his famous speech on the benefits of training in Karate.
