Bodhidharma travels to Hunan province, China, centered around the Shaolin monastery. He begins to instruct the Shaolin Monks in an exercise called Eighteen Hands of Lo-Han. This exercise includes breathing techniques to induce internal cleansing of the body.

Thirty-six families from China immigrate to Kume Village in Okinawa. The Yagi family of the Meibukan Goju-ryu system can trace their ancestral roots to these thirty-six families.

Higaonna (also known as Higashionna) Kanryo Sensei, founder of Naha-Te, is born March 10, 1853 in Nishimura, a district in Naha, Okinawa.

Higaonna
Kanryo Sensei travels to Fuzhou,China to study Chinese Kempo under the
guidance of Master Ryu Ryu Ko. He remains in China for approximately thirteen
years.

Aragaki Ryuko Sensei, Miyagi Chojun Sensei's first Karate teacher and the person responsible for introducing Miyagi to Higaonna Sensei in 1902, is born.

Higaonna
Sensei returns to Okinawa and begins to teach the people of Okinawa Naha-Te
and continues to research the arts in order to develop a curriculum,
specifically designed to develop the mind, body and spirit to promote both
physical and spiritual well being.

Chojun Sensei is born April 25, 1888 in the village of Naha, Okinawa.

Higa Seiko Sensei, founder of Shodokan Goju-ryu is born in Higashi-Machi district in Okinawa. Higa Sensei initially trained under Higaonna Sensei until his teachers death. He continued his training under Miyagi Sensei. He was the first student to teach Goju-ryu at a branch dojo. He did so without Miyagi Sensie's permission.

Higaonna
Sensei begins teaching out of his home in Nishishin-Machi free of charge.
Shinzato Jin an Sensei is born February 5, 1901 in Kume, Okinawa. Unfortunately, Shinzato Sensei is killed during the Second World War during a bombing attack.

Miyagi Sensei begins his martial arts training with Higaonna Sensei and studies with his master for approximately 14 years.

Higaonna
Sensei formally begins teaching Karate-do at the Naha High School. The same
year, Higaonna Sensei changes the original open hand postures of Sanchin Kata
to the closed fist postures to make the form more suitable and safe for the
public school systems.
